Home-address privacy in Nevada, 2026

Last updated October 24, 2026

Nevada lets any registered voter request withholding of an address and telephone number. County-assessor confidentiality uses a different statute, with court and ACP-specific routes. [1] [2]

General information, not legal advice. Individual eligibility depends on the cited provision.

Which records and offices are covered?

Nevada record routes and their limits, checked October 24, 2026
Record or recipientPublished mechanismImportant limit
County assessorListed persons generally use a sworn affidavit and court order. The process concerns assessor records and excludes assessor parcel numbers. [2] [3]
ACP participant's assessor requestA person issued a statutory fictitious address can use the separate direct request with proof. This exception should not be replaced with the general court-order procedure. [2]
Other person facing dangerSection 250.145 supplies a separate danger-based petition. The order under this route expires five years after issuance. [4] [5]
Registered voterSend a written address-and-phone withholding request to the county or city clerk.Section 293.558 is separate from occupational court-order voter provisions. [1] [6] [7]
Voter-file purchaserSection 293.440 allows a copy request through the county clerk.Statutory confidentiality restrictions still govern the released information. [8] [9]

Which assessor protection applies?

Chapter 250 protects specified personal information held by a county assessor. Section 250.140 currently lists 22 lettered personal categories and qualifying nonprofit domestic-violence shelters. Its categories include judicial, safety, election, child-welfare and specified healthcare roles, with defined family coverage. Section 250.145 separately permits petitions by other people facing the stated danger. The two routes should not be collapsed into an occupational checklist. [4]

Listed persons and entities generally need a court order supported by a sworn affidavit. A person issued a fictitious address under the statutory ACP provisions has a separate direct assessor request with proof. That exception matters when selecting the first office to contact. The protected personal information includes specified residential and private contact fields, while assessor parcel numbers remain outside the definition. [2] [3]

What do duration and access exceptions mean?

The other-person danger order under section 250.145 must expire five years after issuance. This review does not assign that duration to every order under section 250.130. Section 250.160 also permits defined access for specified recipients and purposes. Its government, court, investigation, research, marketing and media provisions have conditions. Their existence prevents describing the assessor process as absolute secrecy against every recipient. [5] [10]

Nevada's Confidential Address Program has a separate enrollment route. The published procedure requires an in-person meeting with a CAP Certified Advocate rather than a direct application to the program. Its eligibility guidance identifies survivor categories and evidence conditions. Program participation supplies a fictitious mailing address and addresses voter records, but a particular assessor request still needs the record-specific procedure identified above. [11] [2]

Which voter request is broader?

NRS 293.558(3) allows a registered voter to submit a written request to the county or city clerk to withhold the voter's address and telephone number. This wording is broader than the occupational court-order route elsewhere in the election chapter. The section separately protects identifying numbers and other listed fields. A voter should identify this written request expressly rather than assume court eligibility is required. [1] [6] [7] [9]

NRS 293.440 permits a person to obtain a registered-voter list through the county clerk, with the specified per-name charge and exceptions. That access provision must be read with the confidentiality rules governing particular fields. Commercial online privacy follows another route. The Attorney General's reviewed guidance describes a sale opt-out website link. It does not establish an omnibus deletion right or prove completion of any particular business request. [8] [9] [12]
