## Which records and offices are covered?

Georgia record routes and their limits, checked October 24, 2026
| Record or recipient | Published mechanism | Important limit |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Local government property website | A qualifying officer sends a written request for residential address or telephone removal. | The enacted section gives the local government 30 days. [[4]](#source-4) |
| Local request form | The government must publish an online request form. | The form may require employment verification. [[5]](#source-5) |
| Safe at Home property | The Secretary of State says purchased real-estate addresses remain public. | Real-estate holdings are exempt from this program. [[2]](#source-2) |
| County VoteSafe request | Submit the application and qualifying affidavit or shelter certification to the county registrar. | Residency, registration and the listed order or shelter conditions apply. [[3]](#source-3) |
| VoteSafe duration | Residence-address protection lasts four years after registrar approval. | Withdrawal, cancellation and moves can require action before that date. [[3]](#source-3)[[6]](#source-6) |

## Which property request did Georgia enact?

O.C.G.A. 50-18-78, enacted through SB 215, defines law-enforcement officers for this request. The enacted language is narrower than earlier proposals concerning public employees generally. It reaches specified officers with arrest and criminal-law enforcement responsibilities. A reader should use that definition rather than assume every government job or safety-related role qualifies for property website removal. [[1]](#source-1)

The section requires a local government to remove the residential address or telephone information from property records on its own website within 30 days. The statutory personal-information definition includes a spouse. The local government must make a request form available online and may require employment verification. This is a request to the local website operator, with a particular statutory subject and recipient. [[4]](#source-4) [[5]](#source-5)

## Why does Safe at Home not close the property record?

The enacted section provides a limited injunction remedy against the county employee with the ministerial removal duty. The retained source does not establish a private-party deletion route under that section. Safe at Home has a separate limitation. The Secretary of State's compliance guidance expressly excludes real-estate holdings and says a purchased property's address will be publicly available. [[7]](#source-7) [[2]](#source-2)

Safe at Home's application page requires the program application and a sworn statement. Its address-substitution role should be kept separate from the officer's local-government property request. An applicant can therefore need different procedures for program enrollment and a particular property website. The official real-estate exclusion is especially important when a person expects a new program address to replace a public ownership record. [[8]](#source-8) [[2]](#source-2) [[5]](#source-5)

## How does VoteSafe protect election information?

VoteSafe uses the county registrar. The published conditions require Georgia residency, Georgia voter registration and either a qualifying protective or restraining order or bona fide residence in a family-violence shelter. The application must include the required order affidavit or shelter certification. The residence address remains confidential from public disclosure and is used only for voter-registration purposes under the published guidance. [[3]](#source-3)

VoteSafe confidentiality normally runs four years after the registrar approves participation. Withdrawal or cancellation can end it earlier, and moving counties requires a new application with the new registrar. Those rules should be checked before a participant relies on an old approval. Ordinary voter-list purchasing remains a separate process. Georgia's reviewed online-tracking guidance also does not establish a general commercial address-deletion entitlement.
