# Check your household against the Low Profile Standard.

These 18 checks cover the main ways a home address escapes. A household that passes all of them is hard for a stranger to find. Use it yourself, share it with clients, or cite it with a link to this page.

## Mail

The Postal Service's change of address data is one of the largest feeds into marketing and broker lists.

- LP-1 **No permanent change of address to the home** Mail moves to a private mailbox instead. The Postal Service licenses permanent changes to mailers with four years of history. [Source](https://postalpro.usps.com/resources/mailing-and-shipping-services/NCOALink)
- LP-2 **Bills and statements go to a private mailing address** Every bank, card, insurer and subscription.
- LP-3 **New accounts open at the private address** Including the first accounts after a move.

## Credit and utilities

Credit and utility records carry your name and address to companies that resell them.

- LP-4 **Credit frozen at Equifax, Experian and TransUnion** For every adult in the household. Freezes are free. [Source](https://www.usa.gov/credit-freeze)
- LP-5 **NCTUE file frozen** The phone, pay TV and utility exchange is separate from the three bureaus. [Source](https://nctue.com/consumer/)
- LP-6 **Prescreened offers turned off** At optoutprescreen.com and with NCTUE.

## Phones

A phone number is often the fastest link between a name and a home.

- LP-7 **Caller ID name display off** On every household line.
- LP-8 **A separate number for sign-ups** Stores, loyalty programs and deliveries never get your main number.

## Search results

What shows up when someone types your name.

- LP-9 **No home address in the first two pages of Google** For each adult's full name and city.
- LP-10 **Google Results about you turned on** So you're alerted when your address or phone appears.
- LP-11 **People-search opt-outs filed and rechecked monthly** Listings return, so one round is never enough.

## Children

Children's details first leak through schools, teams and photos.

- LP-12 **School directory opt-out every school year** Returned within the school's deadline. Directory information can include a home address. [Source](https://studentprivacy.ed.gov/faq/if-parent-opts-out-public-non-consensual-disclosure-directory-information-or-any-subset-such)
- LP-13 **Activities and teams use the private address** And rosters aren't published with contact details.
- LP-14 **No public photos that show the house or school** Including location tags on family accounts.

## The home

What the house itself gives away.

- LP-15 **House blurred on Street View** The blur is permanent once Google applies it. [Source](https://support.google.com/maps/answer/15439776)
- LP-16 **Old listing photos removed** Interior photos show layout and entrances.
- LP-17 **Deliveries don't pair your name with the address** Use the private mailbox where you can.
- LP-18 **Before buying, your attorney has the facts** Including how the deed and tax filings will show your name. They decide how to title the home.
